s
(Figure 2). Soil samples were collected from 2 feet below the bottom of the USTs, and petroleum
constituents and lead were detected in the soil samples.
On July 18, 1995, Smith Environmental supervised the installation of three groundwater
monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2, and MW-3) (Figure 2). During installation of the monitoring
wells, soil samples were collected in the borings. On July 21, 1995 Smith Environmental
developed and sampled monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3. Analytical results of the soil
and groundwater samples collected indicated elevated concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons
were present.in the soil and groundwater downgradient of the former gasoline UST locations.
4.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this investigation is to delineate the horizontal and vertical extent of petroleum
`hydrocarbon contamination present in the soil and groundwater on-site in the vicinity of and
downgradient from the locations of the former gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs). To
achieve this goal the following scope of work is proposed:
Advance six soil borings and collect groundwater samples;
Analyze selected soil and groundwater samples for total petroleum hydrocarbons as
gasoline (TPHg), and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX);
Prepare a subsurface investigation report.
The workplan below describes in detail each of the tasks to be completed to delineate the
horizontal and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination present in the soil and
groundwater on-site in the vicinity of and downgradient from the locations of the former gasoline
.,underground storage tanks (USTs). All work described in this workplan will be.performed in
accordance with Smith Environmental's Field Procedures presented in Appendix I and with the
Site Safety Plan on file with PHS/EHD.
W A95122\WP-GLOv.doc 2
•
SMTN
