1
5.0 SCOPE OF WORK
5.1: Scheduling
This task includes scheduling field personnel and equipment, locating underground utilities,
and performing any other necessary field preparation and job start-up activities.
5.2: Advancing Six Soil Borings
This task includes mobilization to the .site, advancing six soil borings, and collecting soil and
groundwater samples.
Six soil borings will be advanced to :depths of approximately 15 feet by Direct Push
Technology (DPT). The proposed locations of these borings are shown on Figure 2.
Additional borings may need to be completed depending upon field conditions during drilling
in order to complete delineation of soil and groundwater contamination. Drilling will be
conducted by a State-licensed (C57) drilling company. A field geologist will be present to log
all drill cuttings and soil samples. Descriptions of soil types encountered and sample
collection intervals will be recorded on boring logs. Soil samples will be collected at five foot
intervals, field screened with a photo ionization detector. Samples will be collected in 7/8-
inch diameter and 1-foot long brass -tubes using the Diedrich Drill ESP System, a dual-rod
sampling technique which will enable collection of undisturbed soil samples at the desired
depth. The tubes will be immediately sealed at each end using teflon tape and plastic end caps,
labeled, and placed on ice. A temporary casing will be set in the open boring to allow for the
collection of a groundwater sample. One soil sample and one groundwater sample from each
boring will be submitted for laboratory analysis of TPHg and BTEX..
Samples will be sent using chain-of-custody record to a State-certified laboratory for analysis
of TPHg and BTEX by EPA methods 8015/8020, respectively. Following sample collection,
each boring will be grouted to the ground surface with neat cement using tremie pipe. Any
drill cuttings will be placed in 5-gallon buckets and stored on-site pending laboratory results.
5.3.- Report_Preparation
A summary report will be prepared for submittal to PHS/EHD. The report will summarize
field and laboratory procedures, contain all analytical data, and include recommendations for
additional investigation, if necessary.
w:195122\wP-GLOV.dm 3
SMTH
