+ `,r
Smith Environmental Site Safety Plan
FACILITY BACKGROUND
On October 15, 1986, two 500 gallon gasoline underground storage tanks (USTs) were
removed from the site. During removal of the USTs, petroleum product was noted present
in the southern UST excavation. Soil samples were collected from 2 feet below the bottom
of the USTs, and petroleum constituents and lead were detected in the soil samples.
WORK PLAN
Task One: Three soil borings will be advanced to depths of approximately 30 feet using
8-inch O.D. hollow stem augers. A field geologist will be present to log all
drill cuttings and soil samples. Descriptions of soil types encountered, sample
collection intervals, and well construction details will be recorded. Soil
samples will be collected at five foot intervals and one groundwater sample
will be collected for laboratory analysis.
All drill cuttings will be placed in 55-gallon drums approved for hazardous
waste storage and stored on-site pending laboratory results. The borings will
be completed as groundwater monitoring wells, constructed of PVC well
screen and casing.
Task Two: The tops of the new wellheads will be surveyed and tied together. Smith
Environmental personnel will measure the depth to water in the wells and
will develop the new wells until the produced water is relatively sediment
free. Prior to the collection of groundwater samples, a minimum of three
well volumes will be purged. Temperature, pH, water elevation, and electric
conductivity will be measured and allowed to stabilize. Water samples will
be collected using disposable bailers, one dedicated to each well.
Groundwater samples collected from all monitoring wells will be submitted
for laboratory analysis. Purge water will be stored in 55-gallon drums
approved for hazardous liquid storage pending laboratory analysis.
PAGE 2
