Eleventh Street
Tracy CA 95376
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD) has
reviewed the "Preliminary Site Assessment Investigation" dated May 10, 2000 that was
prepared by Wright Environmental Services, Inc. (Wright) on behalf of the above referenced site
and has the following comments.
The report details the results from fieldwork performed on March 17, 2000, when a series of five
soil borings were advanced on site. Soil and grab groundwater samples were collected for
analysis from each boring, and a water sample was collected from an on-site domestic well.
Results of the soil sample analyses indicate some residual petroleum hydrocarbon
contamination remains in the area of the former tank pits. Results of the water sample analyses
indicate that there has been a petroleum hydrocarbon impact to groundwater. All water
samples, including the one collected from the domestic well, had total petroleum hydrocarbons
as diesel (TPHd). Quantities ranged from 69-270,000 parts per billion (ppb). The water sample
from boring B-1 also had TPH as gasoline, ethylbenzene and xylene. The vertical and lateral
extent of the groundwater contamination remains undefined.
The report suggests that the TPHd reported in the domestic well may be from another source.
To prove this, another source area must be identified, and contamination must be shown to be
coming on to this site from that source area. There is a documented source of groundwater
contamination at this site, which must be defined.
Please prepare a work plan to define the vertical and lateral extent of the groundwater
contamination and to install groundwater-monitoring wells. Submit the work plan to PHS/EHD
by August 2, 2000. If you have any questions please call Lori Duncan at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
1-221 Cl (11(1w1/e1
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Margare Lagorio, REHS
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Supervisor, Unit IV
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
John Lynch, Wright
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
