IfZ4
Nitrate Loading Study Update
I
A new nitrate loading calculation was performed using the Hantzsche/Finnem.ore equation
(Hantsshe N.,Finnenwre,E.J. 1992, Predicating Ground-Water Nitrate-Nitrogen Impacts.
Ground Water,Vol.30,No. 4) and many of the assumptions presented in the Chesney
-Consulting report dated August 1, 2004 for the subject property. Basically, all the assumptions
were used however the 53 mg/L-N originally used in the report appears to be conservative. The
total nitrogen in domestic waste water effluent ranges between 20 to 80 mg/L-N with 35 to 45
being typical(Crites,R,Tchobanoglous,G., 1998,Stnall,and decentralized wasitevsratex managerment
systems:McCraw-Hill series in water resources and envixomnental engineering,McGraw-Hill
Boston first e4ition). For the purposes of this report,53 mg/L-N will be utilized however it may '
be regarded as fairly conservative when utilized with a new water well having fair to good water
quality. ,
The nitrate loading study update for two parcels whose sizes are the 1.81 (Parcel 1) and 2.68
(Parcel 2). The following assumptions are used for the nitrate loading analysis.:
—8 people per house,two houses per parcel,68 gal/person/day, 544 gpd waste water
total.
— 13 inches per year rain fall
—53 mg(L-N concentration of total nitrogen in effluent h
—0.1 mg/LN concentration of total nitrogen in rain water
—35%denitrification
