backfill.
Thank you,
Chanda
From: Brett Mainer [mailto:Brettaadrilltechdrillina com]
Sent: Fri 2/15/2013 5:01 PM
To: Rodney Estrada [EH]; Bassett, Chanda; Steven Shih [EH]
Cc: Mondavi, Annette; Souza, David; Baker, Kevin; Marcus Knutson;
dcook@sioov.oro; Ted Tasiopoulos [EH]; Donna Heran [EH]; Michael Escotto [EH]
Subject: RE: Linden Well Excavation Completion
We agree with recommended items 1 and 4, as well as abandoning the shoring in
place. Unfortunately, it is impossible to properly compact 5' lifts with construction
equipment. Even the largest compactors (think dam construction projects) can only
achieve compaction on 2 to 3 foot lifts. Hand equipment is good for 6"to 8" lifts. I
believe that the impact of excavator bucket fulls of dirt falling dozens of feet will
provide suitable compaction for the intended purpose and that additional compactive
effort is not worth the money.
However, if the County thinks it prudent to spend for additional compaction effort,
we can use the crane to tamp the earth with a large flat bottomed wrecking ball that
we have. I would suggest placing the weight after every other bucket of earth is
dropped from the County's 325 excavator. This will provide a moderate level of
compaction (not suitable for home construction above, but fine for grazing land).
Brett K. The two 6 inch borings shall be grouted with 10.3 sack sand/cement mix
from the bottom of the open portion of the borings up to the smaller(5' by
5') reduced shaft. A cement cap shall be extended 5 feet into the reduced
shaft.
2. The reduced shaft shall then be backfilled with clean native soil in 5 foot
2/22/2013
