CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD <br /> CENTRAL VALLEY REGION <br /> ORDER NO. <br /> WASTE DISCHARGE REQUIREMENTS <br /> FOR <br /> GOLDSTONE LAND COMPANY, LLC AND KURT KAUTZ <br /> BEAR CREEK WINERY <br /> SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY <br /> The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Central Valley Region, (hereafter Regional <br /> Board) finds that: <br /> 1. Goldstone Land Company, LLC and Kurt Kautz (hereafter jointly referred to as Discharger) <br /> submitted a Report of Waste Discharge (RWD) dated 20 September 2001 to dispose of process <br /> wastewater generated at the Bear Creek Winery. A revised RWD was submitted in February <br /> 2002, a third RWD was submitted on 3 April 2002, and additional information was submitted on <br /> 5 April 2002. <br /> 2. Kurt Kautz owns the facility and land treatment units; Goldstone Land Company, LLC doing <br /> business as Bear Creek Winery, operates the facility. Q <br /> 3. Order No. 71-037, adopted by the Regional Board on 21 August 1970, prescribes requirements for A <br /> the Discharger's winery. This Order is neither adequate nor consistent with the current plans and <br /> policies of the Board. <br /> 4. The winery is located at 11900 North Furry Road, Lodi, San Joaquin County. The winery and <br /> associated Land Treatment Units (LTUs)including present and future LTUs comprise T <br /> approximately 196 acres (Assessor's Parcel No. 061-160-26) in Section 29, T3N,R7E,MDB&M. <br /> The facility location is shown on Attachment A,which is attached hereto and is made part of this <br /> Order by reference. <br /> 5. The winery has existed since 1934. Presently,the winery facility occupies approximately 11-acres <br /> and an adjoining 12-acres of land are used for wastewater application. The RWD proposes that an <br /> additional six parcels of land,totaling approximately 173 acres,be used for wastewater <br /> application. n /j <br /> BACKGROUND \\v// <br /> 6. The Discharger crushes grapes, collects the juice, and ferments wine. Present production is <br /> approximately 30,000 tons of grapes with a wine storage capacity of 8,000,000 gallons. The <br /> Discharger plans to increase production over the next ten years to reach a total production capacity <br /> of approximately 60,000 tons of grapes with a wine storage capacity of 20,000,000 gallons per <br /> year. The Discharger also plans to add a bottling facility, a barrel warehouse, and a cased goods <br /> warehouse. <br /> 7. Expansion of winery facilities, anticipated to occur over the next ten years, will occur on the <br /> 12-acre LTU adjoining the winery facility.
