Photographs of the Site are attached to
this report as Appendix 2.
The Site was agricultural land with a residence near its center. The western portion of
the Site was open land; the eastern portion was a wheat field that had been cut
recently. An old cemetery was located along Littlejohns Creek to the southwest of the
Site; a headstone was dated 1857.
In the residential area, a house, garage, and shed were observed.
Two irrigation wells were observed on the Site, one on the central field road north of the
residence, and the other near the eastern property line.
Five pole-mounted transformers were observed on the Site; no leaks were noted. Two
of the transformers were labeled with blue stickers indicating that they are free of
polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). '
The surrounding properties were almond and walnut orchards, fields of corn and wheat,
open land, and rural residences. A junior golf course was located north of the Site
across Highway 4.
5.0 INTERVIEWS
5.1 Interview with Property Owners
Tony Chiappe was interviewed by telephone on April 29 and May 7, 2013. He indicated
that his family has been renting and farming the Site since the late 1950s. Mr. Chiappe
stated that he will soon own the property; the current owners are Eric and Dawn
Sorrenson and Kimberly Templeton. He indicated that various crops have been grown
on the Site in the past, including alfalfa, corn, and tomatoes. Mr. Chiappe stated that
the house has been on the Site as long as his family has farmed it; he did not know its
date of construction. He indicated that the only environmental issue he is aware of on
the Site involved a portable pump leaking diesel in the lower bench area by the creek.
They performed a cleanup, and the Site was cleared by the EHD, he reported. Mr.
Chiappe was not aware of the existence of the "abandoned well' mentioned on the
permit in Section 6.1, below. He was not aware of any chemical storage, automotive
maintenance activities, dumping, or other environmental hazards on or adjacent to the
Site.
LOGE 1306 Page 3
