BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES <br /> 6 . 1 PURPOSE OF THE BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES <br /> BMPs have been implemented by Norman 's Nursery with the following goals : <br /> A) further limit irrigation water use <br /> B) limit fertilizer use <br /> C ) further limit irrigation tailwater <br /> D) limit potential impact of fertilizers in the irrigation water on surface and ground <br /> water quality <br /> 6.2 PROGRESS ON THE PREVIOUSLY PROPOSED BMPs <br /> Given the above-referenced goals , numerous BMPs have been implemented at the nursery . <br /> Some of the BMPs were detailed in Kleinfelder's document titled " Best Management <br /> Practices , Norman 's Nursery . . . . " dated August 18 , 1997 . Those BMPs and their current status <br /> are detailed as follows : <br /> 1 . The domestic/irrigation back-up well behind the office complex was (prior to July 1 , <br /> 1998 ) the source of potable water for Norman 's Nursery . As well , water samples <br /> were collected and analyzed monthly. <br /> The old domestic/irrigation back-up well behind the office complex was shut <br /> down for maintenance repairs in mid-October, 1998. Consequently, the <br /> discharge of water from the back-flushing of the well into the triangular- <br /> shaped pond ("Basin C') by the office complex has been limited. The new <br /> domestic well is now on line and is being monitored monthly by others. <br /> Copies of the monitoring results were reportedly submitted to PHS/EHD. <br /> 2 . Total gallons pumped per day are read from a totalizer connected in-line with the <br /> on-site water supply well . In addition to the total gallons pumped , the time of <br /> measurement and weather conditions are also recorded . Additional notes <br /> regarding routine and unscheduled maintenance , irrigation line conditions and <br /> repairs , and addition of irrigated areas are recorded . <br /> This BMP is still being used. <br /> 11 7226.
