OJ`KLEINFELDER
Bright Noigi Right Sahitiom
7 . Norman 's Nursery collects and analyzes water samples from the on-site run-off
basin monthly. Water from the discharge of the dewatering wells also is pumped to
the Basin B and sampled weekly. The samples are analyzed for nitrate
concentrations . KI-Nitrifier (a biological additive which increases nitrate
consumption in the basin) is added when high concentrations of nitrate are
reported in the samples . Basin water is reused in water trucks onsite for dust
control , as needed .
This BMP is still being used.
8 . Quarterly, the water contained in Basin B is sampled and analyzed for nitrate .
This BMP has been implemented for nitrates-nitrogen and ammonia-nitrogen
analysis; and only when the culverts are closed and Basin B contains
irrigation tailwater. Otherwise, the discharge from Basin B is sampled (see
MRP by the RWQCB).
9 . Influent water samples will be collected and analyzed on an annual basis . The
Norman 's staff collects surface water samples entering the site from the south
(Duarte property) when applicable .
This BMP has been implemented as modified above.
10 . The non-operational Windmill Well was properly abandoned in accordance with
State and local water well regulations .
This BMP was completed by Purviance Well Drilling in late October 1998.
11 . Norman 's Nursery will plant River Birch along the western and northern perimeters
of Basin B . The water loving trees will increase the uptake of shallow groundwater
near the perimeter of the basin . In addition , the variety of trees may also aid in
reducing the concentration of nitrates reported in groundwater beneath the site .
In April 1998, Norman 's Nursery completed planting approximately 90
European White Birch (sp. Betula Pendula) along the north and east edges of
Basin B. According to the nursery's experts, the trees are hydrophilic.
However, like the adjacent orchards, it may take time for the root ball to
develop to greater depths and have a significant effect.
117226 .
