5.0 PHYSICAL SETTING
5.1 REGIONAL AND LOCAL SURFACE WATER
The nearest major surface water body to the subject property is the California Aqueduct, located
approximately 0.25 mile southwest of the subject property. Surface water runoff from the
subject property discharges to the San Joaquin County sewer system through stormwater
surface inlets located in the parking areas and landscaped areas surrounding the building.
5.2 REGIONAL PHYSIOGRAPHIC CONDITIONS
Based on a review of the USGS 7.5-minute topographic map, Midway, California quadrangle,
dated 1953 (photorevised 1980), the subject property is situated at an elevation of
approximately 210 feet above mean sea level (MSL). The surface topography in the vicinity of
the subject property slopes to the northeast toward the Delta-Mendota Canal, located
approximately 0.5 mile northeast of the subject property.
5.3 REGIONAL GEOLOGY
The soils in the vicinity of the subject property consist of Capay clays, which are described as
nearly level to level, moderately well-drained soils formed in alluvium derived from sedimentary
rocks. Soil permeability is described as slow, due primarily to the presence of heavy clay in the
surface layer (approximately 40-inches thick) (U.S. Department of Agriculture [USDA] Soil
Survey). These soils are underlain by Cenozoic Sediments of clay, silt, and sand.
5.4 REGIONAL GROUNDWATER
Based on information reviewed by SECOR in August 2000 at the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Division, (SJCEHD) during a Phase I ESA for an adjacent site and based
on SECOR's project experience in the area, groundwater in the vicinity is expected to be
encountered at more than 120 feet below ground surface (bgs). However, perched water was
encountered at the Tri-State Trucking Company property, approximately 0.25 mile west of the
subject property, at approximately 20 to 30 feet bgs in 1989/1990. This aquifer is not expected
to be a consistent, regional source of groundwater. Based on the local topography,
groundwater is expected to flow to the north/northeast.
Final ESA Report-30096.009-Tracy CA.doc 15 SECOR International Incorporated
April 14,2005
