8.0 EVALUATION OF RADON EXPOSURE RISKS <br /> Radon is a colorless, tasteless radioactive gas that has been linked to a possible increased risk <br /> of lung cancer. According to the EPA, exposure to 4.0 picocuries of radon gas per liter of air <br /> (pCi/L) on a regular basis increases the risk of lung cancer. The EPA has recommended a <br /> maximum indoor residential exposure limit of 4.0 pCi/L of air. <br /> SECOR has reviewed data contained in an informational letter from the California Department <br /> of Health Services (DHS) that reports the interim results of a California Statewide Radon Survey <br /> conducted by the EPA. The subject property is located in San Joaquin County. According to <br /> the DHS report, San Joaquin County is located in EPA-designated radon Zone 3. This zone <br /> designation reflects the average short-term radon measurement that can be expected in a <br /> building without implementation of radon control measures. Zone 3 reflects a low potential for <br /> elevated radon levels, with expected indoor radon concentrations generally below 2 pCi/L. <br /> Based on the low levels of radon generally reported in San Joaquin County, accumulations of <br /> elevated indoor concentrations of radon gas is unlikely, and no further investigation is <br /> warranted. <br /> Final ESA Report-30096.009-Tracy CA.doc 21 SECOR International Incorporated <br /> April 14,2005 <br />
