Kleinfelder
recommends that the septic tanks be abandoned in accordance with local, state
and federal regulations. The purpose of the septic system is to receive domestic
1 sewage. There is a potential risk that unauthorized or unintended discharge to
septic systems of hazardous materials or petroleum projects has occurred. If the
septic system is going to become inactive, it must be abandoned in accordance
E with applicable regulations. If a greater level of inquiry is desired, soil samples
can be collected in the vicinity of the septic tank and leach lines to evaluate
potential hazardous materials discharge with the-septic system. The signatories
of this report should be contacted if contamination is suspected during proper
septic system abandonment.
6. The fire hydrant located northwest of the residence appears to be used for
decoration and is not connected to any water pipes. The fire hydrant is not
expected to adversely affect the site.
7. A total of five soil stains were noted on the subject site. The soil stains located
north of the barn, and the northern most stain west of the barn, appear to be
deminimus. The southwestern stain appeared to impact soil more than two
inches below the surface. Kleinfelder recommends shallow soil sampling in this
area to evaluate the extent of the contamination.
8. A soil pile overgrown with grass is located adjacent to the east of the first burn
area. No staining, odors, or stressed vegetation, was noted in association with
' t= the soil pile. Based on visual observation, the soil pile is not expected to
adversely impact the subject site. However, the origin of this pile is unknown and
based on this observation alone, potential contaminants may be associated with
this soil. Kleinfelder recommends further inquiry into the origin/background of
this soil pile such that an appropriate evaluation, if needed can be conducted
based on the background findings. If the client desires a greater level of inquiry
soil sampling and analyses can be conducted, either with or without this
additional background information. Evaluation of an unknown soil pile is
I generally more expensive than evaluating soil with a known background.
Additionally background information obtained may not warrant sampling and
analyses.
9. Burn piles were noted at the site. Based on , visual observation hazardous
materials were not noted in the bum piles. However, it is common for farm-
t
related burn piles to have included hazardous materials/compounds, which may
or may not be observable based on a single site visit. If hazardous materials and
or compounds of concern were present, the burned residues may be of
environmental concern. Therefore, if the client desires a greater level of inquiry
regarding these burn piles, Kleinfelder recommends soil sampling and analyses.
r
76114.P01/STO6R1065/JCE:ly Page 17 of 18
©2006 Kleinfelder, Inc.
