P, n-
F • Soil physical and chemical testing was conducted. Physical testing included percolation testing and
particle size analysis of the soil characteristics. Chemical testing included analyses for the
constituents that influence nitrate loading.
• Depth to the water table easured by the sounding 6 s a i g water in a backhoe test pit,
which was measured t 7.2 fe t below gradelVloundi g Anily s of the water table underlying the
test location was cal lated r this proJed
-
• In compliance with EHD requirements, nitrate and the agrichemical dibromochloropropane(DBCP)
were analyzed from the on-site domestic well, along with extensive inorganic and organic analyses. /
A water table sample was tested for nitrate,chloride,T.D.S. and Total Alkalinity.
• Since ultimate wastewater flow volumes emanating from a proposed project are unknown, the
Nitrate Loading Calculations were formulated to theoretically estimate the number of people the
subject property could support without exceeding the Maximum Contaminant Level for nitrate, and
the Porter-Cologne Water Act. This is commonly referred to as the "carrying capacity"of a unit
area of land.
In summary, the soils testing and investigation has found the indigenous soils under the test location, which
was in the extreme north corner of the property,to contain a predominately fine-grained clay material with
acceptable percolation capabilities where a soil-effluent interface elevation would be anticipated. The soils
possess percolative capacity, contrary to the clay soil characteristics, which is relatively common in this
locale and the Tracy area in general. Although the test results show acceptable permeability,long-term
acceptance rates of wastewater effluent by the indigenous soils will decrease over time. This premise is
based on the number of septic system failures that have occurred, particularly those witnessed by EHD in
the Banta area of Tracy.
The water table underlying the soils test location has been impacted with nitrate to more th n 1.5x e
Maximum Contaminant Level. Nitrate Loading calculations have been based on this water table to t result,
correlated with the above-referenced Porter-Cologne Water Act.
Mounding Analysis theoretically demonstrates that a0.4rise of the water tabl am y o cur under effluent
percolating from assumed effluent flow volumes.
II. SOIL SUITABILITY STUDY FINDINGS
A. SUBJECT PROPERTY AND SURROUNDING STUDY AREA INFORMATION
SSS§ 1.1. Surrounding land use to the north is very sparse rural residential with agricultural production,
primarily dairy, north of the Banta area. To the east are I I' Street and the Chevron Banta Loading facility.
f To the west contains the referenced Banta area of Tracy, dairies and dai cropland. Interstate 205 is
approximately 2 miles north of the property. The land use re renc is ill strated on the San Joaquin
County Parcel Viewer Maps. The property is currently zone AG-40
SSS§ 3.1, 3.2,3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3. , 6.8. Applications on microfiche file with the EHD reveal that
there have been approximate y five Permits issued for repairs/replacements/additions to existing
systems on West Grant Line koadxclusively.
2
Chesney Consulting
