Patrick M. Hensley
P.O. Box 746
Lockeford, CA 95237
Home Phone(209)3343660
May 27, 1999
S.J. County Community Development Department
Attn: Kerry Sullivan
1810 Hazleton Ave.
Stockton, CA 95205
Dear Ms. Sulivan,
This letter is to inform you of my opposition to application#UP-98-18,the proposed labor camp facility to
be built by Mr. Jose Rios.
I,along with my neighbors, find no need for such a camp, since one run by the county Housing Authority
is already in place here. Another concern I have deals with the increase in traffic. This, combined with the
consumption of alcohol at this camp presents a possible increase to a problem which faces our society, driving
while intoxicated. My teenage sister will shortly be obtaining her license. With all the additional cars this facility
would create, combined with the impairing effects alcohol has on coordination and judgment, I fear greatly for not
only her safety, but for my own and that of my parents. Gambling, although illegal in California will be allowed
on the premises. They also have op plans to control the possession of firearms. This poses an even greater threat
to our safety. For example, while gambling, say a person becomes intoxicated. What happens then if that person
loses? If they have access to a gun, this can be a deadly combination. There is only one sheriffs deputy assigned
to the north county, which lengthens a response time, as well as the fact that the Linden-Peters Fire Department is
miles away, thus the essential services of fire, ems, and police are too inadequate in this area to be able to handle
an influx of 400 more people.
Sincerely,
Patrick M.Hensley ((
