' Page 2
Ms. Gonzalez
April 21,2004
PG&E will, at no charge, visually inspect any transformer and replace or repair it
if it is leaking. If it is in sound operating condition, it poses no health risk and
there is no need to replace it. However, if you still require a laboratory analyses
of the insulating fluid to determine if it is actually contaminated with PCBs, PG&E
will arrange to do this at your expense. The approximate costs is $300.00 to
$1,500.00 per transformer. It may be necessary to interrupt electrical service at
each location served from the transformers to be tested. If the result of such a
test indicates PCB concentration of 50 ppm or more, the transformer will be
replaced or refilled so that the PCB concentration will be less than 50 ppm (EPA
. classified as "non-PCB") at no charge and the cost of the test will be refunded.
If at any time, you notice that any PG&E equipment has been damaged or is
. leaking, please notify your nearest PG&E office immediately. This will help us to .
inspect, repair or replace the equipment quickly. We have an active program to
remove PCBs from our system to assure the safety and peace of mind of our
customers. We share your concerns and welcome this opportunity to discuss
i, the subject with you.
If you have any questions or wish to have transformers tested, please contact
me at (209) 942 -1618.
Sincerely,.
Chris Callas
Industrial Power Engineer
f
t .
4
L
