they receive approval of their application. They will be in position to only
apply for expansion of their existing plants. They will eventually destroy
this beautiful area-- and for what? MONEY!
C. This operation occurs between March thru October, forty hours a week.
This schedule coincides with the heavy agricultural activities, nut harvest, and the
cannery season when we already experience increased traffic, noise and
dust. However, agricultural operations are short lived and seasonal in nature.
Whereas, a Quarry is a constant NUISANCE . The heavy equipment operation is
extremely noisy, with heavy emissions of diesel fumes which are intolerable
to breath. Just a small diesel tractor puts out so many fumes that a person cannot
tolerate being in the vicinity of operation. What happens to us when all of this
large diesel equipment is operating less that 50 feet from our from and back yards?
E. What do they mean "If conditions necessitate watering", dust suppression
is not an "IF"thing.
F. They state "There are no potential contaminants applicable to this project
other than soil amendments or fertilizer used in the almond orchard". What
a lie!
K. A left-turn lane addition on Santa Fe road is unthinkable. This road is
already overburdened with auto and truck traffic. This will create a perfect
environment for fatal accidents.
There is no way that any measure will reduce the noise and visual impacts of this
project to insignificance. OH, boy - an eight foot berm is going to solve all
the problems created by this project-- what a laugh! One could say, that
earthen berms are one of CHEAPEST ways to attempt to solve the massive
problems created by a quarry in this location!
Where have they been doing sand and gravel extraction in this area for
50 years? I have lived in this area since 1962 and the only quarry in this
area that I am aware of is the one presently in operation here in Riverbank.
I understand one exists in Tracy and Waterford, and that the one east of
Oakdale was shut down because of ground water contamination. Water
was seeping out of the ground at that site. Rumors have it that water is
also seeping out of the ground at the present site in Riverbank.
I am sick of reading the repeated statements by applicant that"Excavation
does not cause health hazards, etc". Excavation causes a release of Crystalline
Silica which is a known carcinogen. It increases noise, odor, petroleum
emissions, traffic, etc. etc., thus increasing our STRESS levels another
