August 15, 2004 Page 1 of 2
TO: San Joaquin County FROM: SIGNATORIES BELOW
Community Development Department
Attn: John Funderburg, Contact Person
18100 East Hazelton
Stockton, Ca. 95205
SUBJECT: Protest against Application PA0400250 (QX) APN/Address
249-050-17/22469 S. Henry Road, Escalon. Applicant: George Reed, Inc.(Quarry Excavation)
Attached is our Protest Petition signed by 61(Sixty-two)residents living in close proximity
to the project area. If more signatures are needed, it will be possible to obtain the
the majority of residents signatures in a one-mile radius of the project area.
Below are some of the voiced complaints against Reed's present quarry operation
north of the Stanislaus River near Riverbank * and complaints against present application.**
1.* Dust is not controlled. It is impossible to keep the dust under control with the use
of water trucks. Sometimes work starts prior to arrival of truck drivers making matters
worse.
2. * Digging deeper in many areas than allowed and water is seeping above ground--Ground-
water contamination.
3. * Fatal accident caused by truck driver pulling out onto Santa Fe Road from quarry.
4.* Vehicular traffic detouring onto Hall Road and Henry Road to avoid heavy traffic
already existing on Santa Fe. This impacts Henry Road and Hall which already have
too much traffic and noise.
5.* Many school bus stops on Santa Fe, Hall, and Henry endangering the children.
6.** Quarry work starts at 7:00 a.m. thus creating noise that interferes with the sleep
requirements
of the children and the elderly as they are not awake this early.
7**. Traffic, noise, and air pollution have significantly increased since
Reed and Co. were granted the application for their present quant' in this area. Roads
are now extremely impacted in this area.
8.** A40 zoning perhaps politically motivated so quarries can make application in this area.
9.** This area is predominantly RURAL AGRICULTURE AND NOT A40 as presently
zoned. Correct zoning would not allow for this type of application.
