What about ground water contamination? How do we know the excavation will not
reach the ground water level? Do we just wait for that to happen? What about water
seeping above ground? Is this going to lower the ground water level? We'd like a full
Environmental Impact Report as well as on-going air monitoring.
We also have concerns about the traffic. Our children have to wait for the school bus out
by the road. The trucks going in and out of the gravel pit on Santa Fe and the processing
plant on River Road are often speeding in these areas. We have personally witnessed
truckers negligent in pulling in and out without stopping to look. The school buses travel
these routes with our kids in them. During the fog season its even more treacherous. We
absolutely demand Henry and Hall Roads not be permitted as a truck route!
We've lived here for 10 years and worked very hard to get here. We're all homeowners
trying to enjoy the beauty of living in the country. We have nice homes with beautiful
views of orchards that have magnificent blooms in the springtime. Our house is a 2-story
home that overlooks these orchards. We don't want a view of machinery and a quarry!
A berm and a row of fruit or nut trees is not sufficient to buffer the noise pollution from
bulldozers, scrapers, loaders, and trucks, or hazardous dust pollution, nor the aesthetic
view we enjoy. Why should we have to look out at a mining operation instead? We
don't want to hear machinery operating for 9 hours a day. The orchards also act as a
buffer from the trains running on Santa Fe.
We've been informed that George Reed is buying up land all over this area for
excavating purposes. Are we going to be subject to more big trucks cruising up and
down our streets on a daily basis? How many more years of our lives is this going to
consume? Is his company going to need access to operate his business via our
properties?
This is devastating to our lives! There are more suitable and less populated areas avail-
able for excavation. Perhaps expand the area on River Road next to the processing plant.
George Reed shouldn't be allowed to destroy the peaceful existence of the people in our
area just so that he can make more money!
We would like to be informed and included in any other discussion pertaining to this
matter.
Respectfully,
RWI -
aymond&Judith Hoot
