Any excavated earth or
mud so tracked onto the highway pavement or public or private approach shall be immediately
removed by the Permittee.
Permittee's attention is directed to Section 19 of the State Standard Specifications.
Where facilities exist, a minimum sidewalk and bikepath width of 4 feet (1.21m) must be
maintained at all times for safe passage through the work area.
Whenever the work causes obliteration of pavement delineation, temporary or permanent
pavement delineation shall be in place prior to opening the traveled way to public traffic.
Lanelinc or centerline pavement delineation shall be provided at all times for traveled ways open
to public traffic. On multilane roadways edgeline delineation shall be provided at all times for
traveled ways open to public traffic.
Whenever lanelines and centerlines are obliterated, the minimum laneline and centerline
delineation to be provided shall be temporary reflective raised pavement markers placed at
longitudinal intervals of not more than 24 feet (7.32 m). The temporary reflective raised
pavement markers shall be the same color as the laneline or centerline markers they replace.
When work is not in progress on a trench or other excavation that required closure of an adjacent
lane, the traffic cones or portable delineators used for the lane closure shall be placed off of and
adjacent to the edge of the traveled way. The spacing of the cones or delineators shall not be
more than the spacing used for the lane closure.
Where it is necessary to excavate under existing curb and gutter, or underground facilities, the
void shall be backfilled with two (2) sack cement-sand slurry.
Excavated material shall be immediately removed from the site and backfilling operations shall
begin as the installations progress. Backfill shall be in conformance to Caltrans Standard
Specifications, Section 19.
Upon completion of each installation, all excavation within the highway roadbed shall be
backfilled and compacted in conformance to Caltrans Standard Specifications, Section 19.
Backfill for installations outside the highway roadbed shall be thoroughly compacted to a density
that existed prior to excavation, and made to conform to the surrounding ground surface.
Base material shall conform to Caltrans Standard Specifications, Section 26.
