RECLAMATIONPLAN—Reed-Clements Pit 2015
George Reed, Inc.
Page 7
III. DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED RECLAMATION (continued)
G. Reveaetation
There is an abundance of topsoil available for reclamation purposes. After excavation activities cease,
the replaced topsoil and roads (or other compacted areas) are ripped and leveled in preparation for
planting. Walnut trees are usually planted by hand in the early spring of the year, as weather
conditions allow. Soil amendments, fertilizer, etc., are placed at the discretion of the Farm Contractor
in charge of farming operations. Irrigation water for existing orchards is obtained from the river by
pump. The excavation process will necessitate the removal and relocation of irrigation lines. Once
reclamation has commenced, irrigation lines will be re-installed and connected to a newer pump /
pipeline system which currently furnishes water to the adjacent reclaimed parcels. This system is
capable of providing sufficient water and pressure to irrigate±50 acre sections at a time.
H. Monitoring and Maintenance
Walnut trees are expensive and require land preparation prior to planting as well as constant
maintenance and monitoring by the Owner and Farm Contractor. To ensure successful planting, the
orchard will be maintained by the Farm Contractor regularly. If a tree failure occurs it will be
replanted. Using the services of a qualified Farm Contractor, the Owner/Operator has successfully
reclaimed±320 acres of mined lands back to almond&walnut orchards.
L In-Stream Mining
In-stream mining does not apply to this project.
J. Future Mining
This project will not preclude future mining on lands adjacent to or near the project area.
K. Public Safety
Access to the project area is by private road, which does not permit public access. Private property
surrounding the project area does not allow public trespassing. Security is on-site and gates are locked
when operation is closed. Fencing with gated entrance is located at the entrance/exit of private road
used by the processing facility at Jahant Road.
L. Other Information
Financial assurances based on San Joaquin County estimates will be posted prior to commencement of
excavation in each phase.
