Past Uses of the Site
Based on historical aerial photographs reviewed, the Site has been used for agriculture
since the 1930s or earlier. Mr. Henry has indicated that the stone house is
approximately 140 years old, and the other structures all date to before 1959. At feast
three additional structures, including a barn, an equipment shed, and a possible hotel or
commercial building, were present on the Site in the past. Dredge tailings were once
placed along the southern side of the property by a nearby mining operation; the ponds
on the Site were left after the removal of the tailings, according to Mr. Henry.
Existing-andProposed_ Septic Tank Usage
Existing Septic System
It is likely that two septic systems exist on the Site, one for each of the houses. Beyond
those indicated on the septic permit discussed below, no details of the septic systems
are Known. Mr. Henry indicated that the wooden house has been unoccupied in the
recent past.
Proposed Septic System
According to Mr. Henry, no new construction is planned for the Site. However, new
homes could be placed on Parcel 2 and Parcel 3 at some point in the future. Any new
residences would utilize new septic systems.
On-Site Septic Permit History
One permit related to septic systems on the Site was identified at the San ,Joaquin
County Environmental Health Department. This permit, dated 9999, is for the addition
of one 40-foot leach line and one 36-inch diameter by 25-foot deep seepage pit to an
existing residential system; the listed address is 24658 Mackville Road. Mr. Henry
indicated this permit must refer to the stone house since the wooden house has not
been occupied recently. The permit is included in Appendix 4.
Existing Septic Tank Usage in the Vicinity
To estimate the existing septic system usage in the area, our office counted septic
systems that exist within approximately one square mile surrounding the property. Air
photo imagery from GoogleEarthT"A was used. Each building cluster on the photo was
assumed to have one septic system. Using this method, it is estimated that 20 or more
septic systems per square mile are present in the immediate vicinity of the Site.
The general area consists of open farmland, orchards, and rural residential properties.
LOGE 1107 Page 2
............................................................................................................................................................... ...................................................................... ......................................
