This map unit consists of interbedded alluvial
gravel , sand and silt. Pebbles of quartz and metamorphic rock fragment generally dominate
the gravels, but the matrix are arkosic. The Laguna formation was deposited by the ancestral
west-flowing Feather, Yuba, Bear and American Rivers.
/5.2 Soil Properties in the Vicinity
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the San Joaquin County
Soil Survey to be composed of Redding gravelly loam, 2-8 percent slopes and Redding gravelly
loam, 8-30 percent slopes. (Plate 7) (USDA, 1992). Table 2 presents some selected properties
of these soils:
Table 2.
Selected Soil Properties of the Surrounding Area
San Joaquin County Soil Survey Report.
Soil Name and Depth Unified Soil Classification SalinitySoil Septic tank
Map Symbol (in) nunhos/cm Reaction absorption
pH fields
Redding 0.7: Gravelly loam SC,SC-SM <2 5.1-6.5 Severe:
Gravelly 7-16: Gravelly loam,gravelly clay <2 5.1-6.5 cemented pan
Loam,2-8% loam,Cl,Cl-ML,GC,GM-GC
slopes,220. 16-22: Clay,Clay loam,CH,CL <2 5.1-6.5
22-60: Indurated — —
Redding 0-7: Gravelly loam SC,SC-SM <2 5.11.5 Severe:
` Gravelly 7-16: Gravelly loam,gravelly clay <2 5.1-6.5 cemented pan,
Loam,8-30% loam,Cl,CI-ML,GC,GM-GC slope.
slopes,220. 16-22: Clay,Clay loam,CH,CL <2 5.1.6.5
22-60: Indurated — —
Note: The table descriptions do not necessarily reflect site-specific soil properties.
5.3 Soil Lithology Observed and Septic Applicability
Generally, the soil encountered in the borings is similar to the soils reported by the San
