Surface and Subsurface Contamination Report Page 4
VELASQUEZ PROPERTY September 5,2008
WKA No. 8237.01
Pedro Bautista, and escorted WKA around the shop. WKA observed three above ground
hydraulic lifts on the site. The lifts had self-contained hydraulic tanks. The shop contained an
office and two restrooms. A water tank used to test radiators for leaks was located at the
southwestern comer of the shop. The interior of the shop contained some de minimus staining.
WKA observed a bucket of absorbent used to pick up spills. According to Mr. Bautista, the shop
generates very little waste fluids from radiators. All waste fluids were said to be temporarily
stored in a plastic drum and taken off-site for proper disposal. The exterior area of the shop
contained a large amount of stored new and used tires and metal. Three five-gallon buckets of
' grease were stored adjacent to the wall. A few vehicles were stored on the site.
' The second structure south of the residence was located adjacent to East Main Street. This shop
building was of similar type construction. On the date of the site reconnaissance, the shop was
' locked and not accessible. Posted signs indicated the shop was utilized for Catuna Welding
Shop. Mr. Bautista indicated that the shop is hardly ever used. The exterior of this shop
contained a large amount of stored metal. A stored radiator dip tank was observed within the
' gated exterior area of this portion of the site. The majority of the exterior areas of the radiator
service and welding shop were covered with asphalt paving. Bare ground was observed on the
western and northern perimeters of the site. Figure 3 contains a site plan illustrating the major
site features.
' Five groundwater monitoring wells (WMs) were observed either just on or adjacent to the site.
Three of the MWs were observed with in the sidewalk along East Main Street at the southern end
' of the site. These three MWs are related to an on-going investigation at the nearby Valero
branded gas station located approximately 300 feet to the west of the site (Section 4.3).
' The remaining two MWs were observed east of the eastern site boundary fenceline, adjacent to
Adelbert Avenue. The MWs are related to the on-going groundwater monitoring and
' remediation activities associated with the Marley Cooling Tower Company, located
approximately 4,000 feet northerly of the site. Marley Cooling Tower Company is further
' discussed in Section 4.3 of this report.
' 2.2.1 Municipal Infrastructure and Utilities
WKA observed overhead electrical power lines along the eastern side of Adelbert Avenue site,
' off site. Pole-mounted electrical transformers located across the street from the site were tagged
non-Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB).
