FFThe was farmed in safflower and row crops such as pumpkins and corn prior to 1990.
ding area and region have been dry land and irrigated farmed, particularly in alfalfa,
d pasture also for the last several decades. Irrigation is provided from irrigation
e Banta Carbona Irrigation District.
STANDARD PUBLIC ENVIRONMENTAL RECORD SOURCES
County, State and Federal environmental records were reviewed for sites which may have
impacted the subject property. The databases accessed did not indicate a problem or potential
problem with the subject site. Environmental impact from facilities in a one-half mile radius to
the subject site have been well-documented and consist primarily of the Chevron Banta Tank
Storage and Tanker Truck Loading facility to the southwest. Releases of petroleum products
have occurred from this facility and its associated pipelines. Monitorfn wells are on-site and
surround the property to ensure product detection. The Chevron Facility is theoretically
upgradient from the subject property and impact to the property has apparently not occurred.
Regarding groundwater under the property, it is conceivable that there may be groundwater
impact, particularly from nitrate from upgradient agricultural production.
Fi
owners of the subject property were Mr. Pombo's uncle since 1984. Before Mr. Ernie 7
bo, ownership was by Sue Tiago. Since the operation and ownership of the subject property
ll documented, previous ownerships to Mr. Pombo's were not investigated.
✓
There are two primary sources of information that document and define past land use, although
they can be difficult to interpret. The first is the use of aerial photographs. Aerial photographs
of the subject area in the 1970's from USDA Soil Maps indicate no buildings or development of
any type on the subject property. The second source of information can be found on USGS
maps. A 1987 USGS map for this area also shows no buildings or other type of development.
INFORMATION FROM SITE RECONNAISSANCE AND INTERVIEWS
The following information was obtained visually and/or through an interview with Mr. Bob
Pombo on September 20, 2001: The subject property contains no underground or above ground
storage tanks (USTs/ASTs) and there were no tanks while Mr. Pombo's uncle owned the
property. As referenced, there is an on-site conventional septic system with a septic tank and a
raised, visible leachfield area to the southwest of the house. On-site containers consist of feed
tanks and containers associated with livestock production. The only agrichemical mixing and
spraying done on-site is to spray weeds with the herbicide Round-Up®.
Page -2-
Vaffey Ag Research
