We observed that the Property is currently occupied by the Haven Acres Mobile Home
Park and Marina, fallow agriculture production land, and paved and dirt access roads.
Existing Septic Tank Use
We reviewed septic system permits at the San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department
found that the Haven Acres Mobile Home Park and Marina has septic system permits dating
from 1961 to 1999, reportedly consisting of an estimated 15 redwood and concrete septic tanks
with approximately 1300 feet of leach field. A summary of the septic tank permits for the
Property is included in Table I. A review of the septic system permits for sites surrounding APN
191-270-13 was performed and summarized in Table II. Except for destruction of septic systems
and the addition of leach lines, no records were found indicating repairs to septic systems on or
in the immediate vicinity of the Property.
Soil Profile and Groundwater
As part of this study, ENGEO subcontracted a rubber-tired backhoe with a 24-inch wide bucket
to excavate a soil profile trench at the site. A 12 feet long and 13 feet deep trench was excavated
and logged on November 17th, 2003 by an ENGEO geologist. The approximate location of the
trench is shown on Figure 2.
The soils in the trench consisted of a 1-foot thick disturbed surface layer of brown sandy clay
with disked safflower stalks. Below this surface layer was a 1-foot thick zone of reddish brown
clayey sand underlain by light brown, dark reddish brown, and gray silty sand to the depth
explored. Free groundwater was observed at a depth of 11 feet below the existing ground
surface. Further excavation deeper than 13 feet was prevented by collapsing of the trench
sidewalls. The log of the trench is included in Appendix A.
Test pits excavated at the site on September 10, 2003 during a previous study (ENGEO, 2003a)
measured groundwater levels ranging from 81/2 to 101/2 feet below the existing ground surface
with a gradient to the west and northwest towards the San Joaquin River.
To provide groundwater information as requested by the county, a 2001 Terrascarch
groundwater report is attached in Appendix B. The Terrasearch (2001) report summarizes their
sampling methods and result for water samples previously collected from three monitoring wells
on the site and from the adjacent San Joaquin River.
