., ..i
18 May 2007
AGE-NC-07-1528
5.0. SOIL DESCRIPTIONS
On 12 April 2007, AGE applied for and received an Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Permit
from the SJCEHD. On 13 April 2007,a 4-inch hang auger was utilized to advance a test hole in the
subject parcel. The test hole was located in an area where the proposed septic system is to be located.
The test hole (TH-2)was advanced to a depth of 68-inches bsg.
The soil was visually described in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System by a
representative of AGE under the direct supervision of a California Professional Geologist. The soil
sample collected from TH-2 consisted of soils ranging from silty sands to hard pan clays.
Table 1
SOIL DESCRIPTION TH-2
Depth Interval (ft bsg) Soil Description Soil Classification
0-5 dry, brown clay with sand CL
6.0. PERCOLATION TESTS
On 02 May 2007,one boring was advanced(TH-1)for shallow percolation rate testing. The boring
was advanced using a 4-inch hand auger.Boring TH-I was advanced to a depth of 42-inches(Figure
2).The borings were located more than 100 feet from the proposed well location and within 100 feet
of the proposed septic system location.
On 02 May 2007, the sides of the boring were scraped and loose material was removed from the
boring. Once the boring was cleared, a 4-inch diameter PVC pipe with perforations on the bottom
and 2 inches of fine gravel were added to the borings. Then the boring was filled with water to a
depth of 12 inches above gravel at 0930. Test hole TH-1 was covered for 24 hours to allow
saturation of the boring.
On 03 May 2007, test hole TH-lwas inspected prior to initiation of the 4-hour percolation test.
Boring TH-1 was found to be completely dry,but intact and in good condition. Six inches of clean
water was added to the boring to initiate the 4-hour percolation test. The 4-hour percolation test was
performed by recording the amount of water remaining in the boring at 30-minute intervals.
Additional water was added to the boring if required to ensure that approximately 6-inches of water
remained. Water level was measured from a fixed reference point on the PVC casing using a solinst
water level meter. Measurements indicated on the Percolation Test Rate form are in decimal feet.
Advanced GeoEnvironmenhl,Inc.
