Item No. 3
PC: &20-92
SA-9234
Page 2
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This request is for a Site Approval to establish a 1,000 meat-bird chicken ranch. The applicant proposes
to fence five acres of this 4262acre parcel to confine the chickens, and he proposes to build a pole barn
within this five-acre area. The chickens will feed off the natural vegetation, and their diet will be
supplemented with chicken feed. The birds obtain water from a water drip system. After approximately
22 weeks, when the chickens are full-size, they will be taken to a local poultry market to be prepared for
sale. The applicant will then deliver the birds to customers in the San Jose area
There will be one employee who will live on the site. The applicant does not expect any customers or
retail operations on the site.
Sewage disposal will be provided by two existing septic systems. The fowl waste will be property
disposed of in accordance with a manure management plan approved by the Environmental Health
Division. Water is provided by a well. The stone drainage will be handled by natural absorption and run-
off.
This application was referred to the Planning Commission because of neighborhood concern over the
issues of odors, flies, waste material, dust, noise, traffic, and absentee landlord.
