San Joaquin County Planning Division
Attention: Ms . Goold
June 19 , 1992
Page Two
4. It would be anticipated that even 1 , 000 chickens
will develop large manure piles , flies , chicken carcasses
and feathers and create contamination problems for the
adjoining Bear Creek out of which agricultural irrigation
water is now pumped by downstream owners .
5 . Chickens , their manure and carcasses , carry a
large number of infectious diseases such as coccidiosis
which affect cattle and dogs . They also carry other
diseases which are transferable to humans . Many of these
diseases are spread by flies and parasitic carriers borne
by the air and/or by the creek water . The people working
on my clients ' ranch will be exposed to these diseases and
that condition would be totally unacceptable .
6 . It is highly likely that numerous chickens will
escape from the farm and cause a traffic hazard on Jack
Tone Road and intersecting roads . This condition will
represent a danger to those residents having to drive
these roads every day.
7 . The address of the applicant, Ming Wei , is in San
Jose and therefore it is highly likely that the operation
will be by absentee owner . The amount of livestock in
this project indicates that the owners should be on site
24 hours a day .
8. It is likely that chickens , eggs and feathers
will be sold on the premises thereby causing additional
traffic in the area . The activity of a chicken ranch and
wholesale and retail sales , on an ongoing basis , is not
compatible with the area and does not abide by the
agricultural zoning for the area .
9 . My clients understand that there is a 250
residential development proposed and approved for a
location on Jack Tone Road , as crossed by Bryant, about
two miles north of this property . The obnoxious odors and
feathers , which cannot be confined to the property, will
no doubt affect this development . Escaped chickens , will
increase driving hazards in the area and endanger future
residents of the housing development . Further , there is a
proposed golf course and country club approved in the
area, about a mile north of the property , these type of
projects raise property values in the area while a chicken
