• Conduct soil physical and chemical testing for determination of the following:.Physical
testing included percolation testing, backhoe trench infiltration testing, and particle size
analysis of the soil permeability characteristics underlying the potential effluent disposal
areas. Chemical testing included analyses for constituents that influence nitrate loading.
• Water table analysis of the water table underlying the proposed chambered filter bed
location was conducted. Water table analyses established a baseline concentration of the
tested constituents, and the capacity for nitrate loading.'
Mounding Analysis potential was estimated under the proposed disposal area to ensure
sufficient treatment distance remains between.the soil/effluent interface and the highest
to
anticipated depth groundwater. A
p p g calculated estimate indicates an acceptable distance
will be maintained.
• The required 100%reserve/replacement area for.the primary leachfield can be easily
situated directly north and west of the primary.disposal area, within the existing vineyard.
• Although ultimate wastewater flow volumes emanating from the completed project are
unknown, primarily due to changes in the number of employees:throughout the year, a
maximum.Average Daily Flow(ADF) volume was formulated using all available
parameters'-acceptable to EHD.
/At-the time of'soil field-testin , two.locations were'tested;for potential siting of the new disposal
g p g
area. Soil test results were compared between these two locations. Testing was done in what is
referenced in this report as-the "potential east side disposal area" and the "potential west side
disposal area. These east and west side test sites are'in relation to an existing single family
residential structure;.near Jacob Brack Road. It has subsequently-been decided based„on the
findings of these studies;to install the new wastewater disposal area an the west side of this
E .
residential structure, in a portion.o f an existing vineyard whisk will be removed
In summary, this investigation has found the indigenous soils under the future domestic wastewater
disposal areas to contain a loam soil type, predominately a sandy loam;with significant hardpan
characteristics. Denitrification potential within the soil profile.appears,to be indeterminable based
on.the nitrate-nitrogen analysis. However, from nitrate analysis of the two water table analyses, it
appears that greater nitrate-nitrogen concentration within the soil profile has led to a higher nitrate
concentration in the water table. Due to variability in the percolation test results and the presence
of underlying hardpan, a six-celled, chambered filter bed arrangement is proposed, with a pressure
dose system to equally distribute the effluent over a large disposal area.
.2
Chesney Consulting
i
