San Joaquin County Community Other CEQA Considerations
Development Department
accommodate the continued farming of the later stages of the Project concurrent
with mining activities. The existing orchard would not be completely removed at
on-set of the Project; rather, the areas identified as later stages(i.e. excavation
areas)would continue to be farmed while excavation takes place on other areas
of the site. As site operations progress through the proposed Project stages, the
previously mined areas would be reclaimed to support an agricultural uses, as
.. mining operations progress to the next stage. Further, the applicant proposes a
reclamation plan that is designed to support development of agricultural land
uses following the conclusion of mining and reclamation activities at the site.
Construction of new buildings and roadways would involve substantial quantities
of building materials and energy, some of which are nonrenewable. The
proposed quarry operation would increase the local demand for fmite energy
resources, such as electricity, petroleum, and propane. Consumption of such
materials and energy is associated with any resource-extractive project, and these
commitments are not unique or unusual to this Project or region. The proposed
Project would also result in an increase in automobile and truck trips. These
additional trips, plus extraction and processing activities at the site would also
` require the use of fossil fuels and other nonrenewable resources.
r
r
r
r
r
DeSilva Gates Quarry Project
Draft Environmental Impact Report 5-17
JRS 05105.05
