Freeway Weaving Segment Operations: Table 21 presents the projected weaving operation between the
I-5/SR-132 and SR-132/Bird Road interchanges. As part of the interchange project, an auxiliary lane will
be constructed between the southbound I-5 direct off ramp to westbound SR-132 and the westbound SR-
132 off ramp to Bird Road. An auxiliary lane will also be constructed between the Bird Road on ramp to
eastbound SR-132 and the eastbound SR-132 direct off ramp to southbound I-5. The weaving evaluations
assume that these auxiliary lanes are in place and available for weaving.
►. As shown in Table
21, all design alternatives weave sections are projected to operate at LOS `B" or better during both the
AM and PM peak hours.
r
Ramp Junction (Merge/Diverge) Operations: Table 22 presents the projected Bird Road on ramp
merge with westbound SR-132 and eastbound SR-132 off ramp diverge to Bird Road for all three design
alternatives. Under all three design altematives, SR-132 was considered to be a four-lane freeway at the
merge and diverge. As shown in Table 22, both ramp junctions were projected to operate at LOS "C"or
better under all three design alternatives during both the AM and PM peak hours.
TABLE 22
SR-132/BIRD ROAD INTERCHANGE RAMP JUNCTION OPERATIONS
YEAR 2007 PLCS PROJECT CONDITIONS' LEVELS OF SERVICE(LOS)WITH 4-LANE FREEWAY
(ALTERNATIVES 1 THROUGH 3)
SR 132/ Alternative Alternative Alternative
Bird AM Peak Hour PM Peak Hour AM Peak Flour PM Peak our AM Peak Hour PM Peak Hour
Road Density Density Density Density Density Density
Ramps (PC/ On) LOS ( e/ml/In LOS ( c/mi/In LOS ( e/mi/In LOS (PC/mi/In LOS (pe/mi/fn) LOS
WB on
from 17.2 B 1.8 A 17.2 B 1.8 A 17.2 B 1.8 A
Bird Rd
EB off to
Bird Rd 5.2 A 21.3 C 52 A 21.3 C 5.2 A 21.3 C
Roadway Segment Operations: With the Bird Road interchange project, SR-132 is proposed to be a
four-lane freeway through the Bird Road interchange and immediately to the east and west of the
interchange for all three design alternatives. Table 23 presents the projected peak hour levels of service on
these SR-132 study segments. As shown in the table, these segments are projected to operate at LOS "B"
or better during both the AM and PM peak hours. As also shown in Table 23, SR-132 from the 1-5/SR-
132 interchange east to the end of the four-lane freeway segment is projected to operate at LOS "AB"
` while the two-lane highway segment on SR-132 further east of the I-5/SR-132 interchange is projected to
operate at LOS "F" during the AM and PM peak hours.
