SAN (VA UIN FARM BURU
T Q FEDERATION
- MEETING TODAY'S CHALLENGES/ PLANNING FOR TOMORROW
RECEIVED
JUL 2.3 2003
July 22, 2003
Jose Rubianes, Associate Planner
San Joaquin County Community Development Department
18 10 East Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205
RE: PA-0300317 (GP Pre-Application)
Jose:
The proposed "General Plan Amendment to change AG-40 Zoning that is designated
Open Space Resource Conservation conflicts with San Joaquin Farm Bureau policy and
undermines the validity of the General Plan.
This General Plan amendment should be denied for the following reasons:
1. A limited industrial zone would conflict with existing agricultural operations.
Non-conforming uses do not belong in areas zoned for agriculture.
2. The bridge creating access to this location is inadequate for current demand.
Adding a limited industrial zone will further exacerbate the problem.
3. The existing two-lane road barely meets the needs of the current traffic load.
4. Allowing a limited industrial zone in an ag zone will be growth inducing.
5. ' Currently there is not a need in this county for increased industrial zones.
When the need arises these zones should be created adjacent to other
industrial zones to prevent "islands" of industry.
The San Joaquin Farm Bureau Federation representing over 5,000 local families opposes
this General Plan Amendment and requests that it be denied.
Regards,
Joe Petersen
Program Director
P.O.
