Nitrate analysis of the on-site domestic well will be conducted for the upcoming Soil
rr Suitability Study. Present and future agricultural activities on nearby properties and in
surrounding areas may contribute potential environmental concerns, namely nitrate
contamination. However, this may be said of any agricultural operations within the County.
The cropland is under conventional production. Therefore, pesticides and synthetic
fertilizers are applied to the subject property. Contemporary pest control agrichemicals are
much softer on the environment with shorter half-lives in comparison to materials used two
or more decades ago. Direct observations of the entire property reveal the residential and
agricultural operations to be extremely clean in comparison to other observed farming
operations within San Joaquin County.
§ 3.0 IDENTIFICATION OF ALL PAST AND CURRENT SOURCES
OF CONTAMINATION
§ 3.1 Discussion of the methods used to research and investigate the potential or known above-
ground and below ground sources of contamination at the site include the following:
The first source of environmental information is the FHD Envisions Program Records.
These documents provide all available public environmental information on leaking
underground storage tanks and hazardous materials release surrounding the subject property.
No listings were noted for all the names associated with the subject property, which are:
"Ruiz,"or Mr. and Mrs. Ralph and Dorothy Ruiz, or for the physical addresses/APNs listed
on the Title Page.
The second informational gathering source was direct observation of the entire property and
the Environmental Questionnaire found in Appendix B. The Questionnaire documents
environmental information obtained directly from Mr. Mark Ruiz. His family has either
farmed the property personally, or leased it out to be farmed since 1965. He is the most
knowledgeable of the activities that have taken place on and around the subject property,
since he was born and raised on the property.
The third informational source is the Geotracker Site List from the State Water Resources
Control Board for underground (USTs) and leaking underground fuel tanks (LUFTs). No
USTs or LUFTs were noted on the Geotracker Site List in proximity to the site.
The fourth informational source is the USDA Soil Maps indicating the soil type under the
property. The surface soil structure of the property is difficult to determine from the soil
maps since the property appears to be in-between two soil maps. It is known that the surface
soils in this area are a predominate Capay clay. The groundwater depth will be discussed in
the Soil Suitability Study. Regarding flood info, Schack& Company will determine flood
potential, which should be nonexistent.
§ 3.2 Description of all past on-site potential and/or known above and below ground sources of
contamination identified on the property include the following: 1.)There has never been above
ground or underground fuel storage tanks for as long as the Ruiz's have owned the property.
Page-4-
Chesney Consulting
