May 21,2002
` Job Number: LGO2-140
Page 8
` Proposed Parcel No. 4 had three(3)percolation tests due to a drilling error. Instead of
abandoning the 3.5-foot deep hole that was intended to be a 3-foot hole, it was decided to
evaluate it anyway.
All the percolation test casings were a 2-inch PVC pipe with several holes drilled on the
bottom of the casing. Approximately 6 inches of"pea gravel"was placed in the bottom of each
r. hole, the casing was installed, and several feet of"pea gravel"was backfilled in the annular
space. Presaturation of the holes was performed the day before the percolation test.
The percolation tests were conducted on May 7 and May 15, 2002 in accordance with the
requirements of San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division. The last '/2 hour of the tests
were observed by Johnny Yoakum and Lisa Medena of that office. A satisfactory percolation rate
for a shallow test (3-feet) is 60 min/in or less. A satisfactory percolation rate for a deep
percolation test (>3 feet and<=25 feet) is 30 min/in or less. In order to "pass"the inspected
_ percolation test, either the shallow or deep test is required to exceed the minimum specified rates.
Shallow and deep tests were conducted on each of the proposed parcels. Parcel No. 2
i (deep test) was the only parcel that exhibited a satisfactory percolation rate. Parcel No.'s 1, 3,
and 4 did not exhibit a satisfactory percolation rate on either the shallow or deep tests. Either a
shat ow or de percolation test needs to obtain a satisfactory percolation rate for a satisfactory
test. A summary of the percolation tests are presented in Table 4.
Table 4.
Summary of Percolation Tests.
Lot Test,Date Test Depth Percolation Rate
r I Shallow,5-7-02 3-ft Fail:No movement observed
1 Deep,5-7-02 21.5-11 Fail: 250-min/in
`. 2 Shallow,5-7-02 3-ft Fail:No movement observed
2 Deep,5-7-02 21-ft Pass:25-min/in
3 Shallow,5-7-02 3-ft Fail:No movement observed
3 Deep,5-7-02 20.5-11 Fail: 83-min/in
4 Shallow,5-7-02 3-ft Fail: 125-min/in
4 Deep, 5-7-02 3.5-ft Fail: 50-min/in
4 Deep,5-15-02 14.5-11 Fail: 125-min/in
1ogso
P i
Z
O
SSOC\
