Equipment Description
Fixed Equipment
The fixed equipment utilized at the proposed site, all electrically powered, consists of two
general categories. The first group of equipment is concerned with sizing wood fiber
particles. This group includes conveying, grinding, and screening equipment. Typical
machinery in this group includes belt, screw, and pneumatic conveyors,Montgomery and
Jeffrey wood grinders, and gyratory screening systems. The second group consists of
packaging equipment and includes conveyors, hoppers, bag filling and sealing
machinery,bag stacking(palletizing), and palletized load stabilization(stretch wrapping)
equipment. All equipment would be located inside the existing buildings.
Mobile Equipment
The mobile equipment employed at the proposed site would consist of forklifts,rubber-
tired front-end loaders, and semi truck and trailers. Propane, gasoline, or diesel engines
power the forklifts. The front-end loaders are diesel powered. Gasoline or diesel engines
power the trucks. The chart below indicates the type and typical number of mobile
machinery used at the proposed site.
Mobile Machine Type Average Number in Use at Proposed Site
Rubber-tired forklift, 6,000#capacity 5
Caterpillar V50e is typical of this class
Rubber-tired front-end loader,4 to 8 CY 3
capacity. Caterpillar 95OF-II or 966F is
typical.
Tractor-trailer combination for yard 2
Columbia Trailer Tipper 1
VI. Materials Produced Stored or Used at the Proposed Site
Soil amendment products packaged for use by retail consumers in their homes, yards and gardens
will be produced at the site. These products are used to enhance the productivity of existing soil
(organic composts, planting mixes),provide a complete growing medium(potting soils), or aid in
water retention or provide decorative mulching of borders(fir bark, redwood bark, and cocoa
mulch). Each product has its own formula or recipe. The formula specifies the admixture and its
relative quantity used in the product. A complete list of admixtures typically held in inventory is
attached. The list specifies the storage format of the admixtures as well. As can be seen from a
review of this list, the primary ingredient in these products is solid wood fiber. Wood fiber is the
primary bulking agent that suspends the other ingredients in a manner beneficial to plants.
These products are not fertilizers, though they may contain fertilizers as noted on the list.
