DDD. Common name:DDD,TDE(tetrachlorodiphenyledme),product of DDT deg.
Half-lives in the environment:
Air: 17.7-177 h
Surface water: 2-15.6 yr. Groundwater: 1680-270,000 h based on anaerobic soil study data
Sediment:N/A
Soil:Field half life of 2-15.6 yrs based on observed rates of biodeg.of DDT
Biota: 119 hr in mussels.
Environmental Fate Rate Constants or Half-Lives:
Volatilization: Aquatic approx. I mo.
Oxidation:Aquatic half-life approx.22 yr
Hydrolysis:half-life of 570 d @ pH 9 and 190 yr @ pH 5
Biodegradation:Aqueous aerobic half-life of 2-15.6 yr
Agricultural pesticide application documentation is retained for all applications made to the property
by Mr. Mike Rodoani, who is the farm manager of the property. As noted on the attached documents
in Appendix B, the agrichemicals applied to the subject property are done by Mr. Rodoani as the
custom applicator. Applications are either aerial, whereby the agrichemicals are mixed at the airstrip
before application, but mostly application is done by ground rig. Agrichemical mixing for ground
application is done on the subject property near the center of the property, south of the dairy
buildings. The aforementioned nurse tank with a pump is filled with water with a hose over the top
creating an air gap, then this water is used to fill spray tanks. Consequently, it is impossible for cross-
contamination to occur to the domestic well. No soil staining,or containers were noted in this area
agrichemical mixing area.
Available Environmental Fate Data for the pesticides used on the property was obtained from the
U.C. Davis and Oregon State University Extoxnet System, and is found in Appendix B.
The following chart summarizes the available Environmental Fate Data for the name and type of
agrichemicals that have been applied to the property for the past two seasons. Noted times of
duration are maximum values observed. The Fate Data is highly specific for various environmental
conditions, and is normally expressed as half-lives in terms of days.
PESTICIDE APPLIED TYPE OF SOIL PERSISTENCE WATER PERSISTENCE
TO THE PROPERTY AGRICHEMICAL
(Chemical Name)
Caplan Fungicide 1 -10 days 23-54 hrs
RovralIprodione Fungicide 7-60 days very rapid
Asana Esfenvalerate Pyrethroid Insecticide 15-90 days 21 days
RoundupGlyphosate Herbicide 47 days 12-70 days
Supracide Methidathion Herbicide 5-23 days No detection in
groundwater
Surflan Oryzalin Herbicide 20- 128 days Slow breakdown
LL
Page-7-
Chesney Consulting
