NORMA NORTON PROPERTY
Page No. 3
VI. SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTS
Four test holes were excavated to a depth 10 feet in the areas
of the existing and proposed homesites in order to determine the
soil profile in the general area. For approximate location of the
test holes (PT) see the Parcel Map in the Appendix. The soil
profile holes were logged by an engineer and a description of the
soils encountered in each hole is contained in the Appendix.
Generally the surface soils consisted of a medium dense silty fine
sand. In two of the test holes "hardpan" was encountered at a
depth of 3 to 4 feet. The surface soils were underlaid by various
strata of fine to medium sand, sandy silt, silty clay, and medium
to coarse sand. For a more detailed description of the soils
encountered see the log of test holes.
Shallow (36" deep) percolation tests were performed at each of
the test hole locations. An 8 inch diameter hole was excavated and
2 inches of gravel was placed in the bottom of each hole. A 3 inch
diameter perforated pipe was then placed and backfilled with
gravel. Each of the tests holes were filled with water 24 hours
prior to running the tests. The last half hour of the tests
readings were witnessed by a county health official and the test
data obtained is enclosed in the appendix. The percolation rates
have been adjusted to account for the gravel and pipe backfill.
Calculations for adjustments are on the test data sheets.
A summary of the test results is presented next:
Diameter of Depth of
Tgst No. Hole Hole (in. ) Pprc lation Rate (minfin)
PT-1 8 36 11
PT-2 8 36 39
PT-3 8 36 59
PT-4 8 36 20
VII CONCLUSION
Based on the results of the percolation tests, the soil
profile, and the performance of the septic systems in the area, it
is our opinion that the existing and proposed homesites resulting
from the proposed parcel split should be suitable for use of on
site sewage disposal system. Recommended systems should include
t oaso
s
s +
a
1$oc.
