Hazelton Avenue
Stockton, CA 95205
Via FAX: (209) 468-3163
Re: Application #SA-01-43
Dear Mr_ Fisher:
As President of the Parent Teacher Club at Mokelumne River School, I was
asked to put together the petition that accompanies this letter in response to the
proposed "Temporary Charter School" site directly adjacent to Mokelumne River
School. The petition contains signatures of 91 people.
It is our understanding that the site will strictly be temporary; however, there is
some concern that University Public Schools, in conjunction with Lodi Unified
School District may want to use the site on an on-going basis once the buildings
and other infrastructure for the site are in place. The past two school years new
charter schools have opened in Lodi with this school being the third. What if they
wanted to open another school next year? Would this site become a potential
permanent site for a school?
Other parents expressed concern regarding noise and safety issues that I am
sure will have to be addressed by the county. Coordination during emergency
situations is of particular concern.
Finally, the issue that will directly impact parents and grandparents and the
children of both Mokelumne River School and the Charter School would be a
traffic issue. Mokelumne River School already has traffic headaches at drop-off
and pick-up times when parents converge on the school to shuttle approximately
370400 students. Mokelumne River School is a private school and does not
have public transportation for students.
