r.r
Submission in Support of Site Approval
Application No. SA-99-31 by Jodha Gill
On Property owned by Veer& Bina Singh
Members of the development committee advisors and expert staff members of the Health
and Planning Departments.
My name is Veer V. Singh, my wife and I are joint owners of the property in question and
the subject of Site Approval Application 4SA-99-31. Mr. Jedha Gil here is applying for the
redevelopment.
We have on record,(`neighboring opposition' and "Environmental Health" issues that need
to be addressed.
Let me begin with'neighboring opposition.
While it is apparent that some of these are raised on behalf of owners and employees of
the providers of existing and comparable services, possibly out of fear of impending competition,
we nevertheless go ahead and respond to each of them and allay any genuine fears that people
may have.
(I) Fear of contamination of ground water. I believe it would be an insult to the integrity
of the EPA and the State Water Resources Board if that contention were allowed to go
unchallenged.
As you are well aware Ladies and Gentlemen, the current standard and requirements of
the EPA and the State Water Resources Board governing underground storage tanks are so
stringent that they are virtually foolproof of any contamination. Therefore any fears emanating
from this complaint ought to be put to rest as they are being adequately addressed by the EPA and
State Water Resources Board.
(II) The second complaint says that a left turn out of the convenience store would be very
dangerous because of its location too far inside the on-ramp of the North-bound lanes of Highway
99.
The site is fenced all around and has two entrance/exit gates. The auto repair shop
currently operating out of the site mostly uses one gate which happens to be the western gate
closest to the freeway. The other gate is located some 200 feet East along the frontage road and
approximately 15 feet West of the Calimyrna Road intersection on the southern side of Frontage
Road. Once the site is operational with both gates in use this fear will have been taken total care
of.
(I11) The third complaint is of noise, traffic and crime.
As far as noise and traffic are concerned, the advent of a gas station and convenience store
at the proposed site will definitely reduce both as those requiring these services will no longer
need to speed past the site all the way to Collier Road and proceed along it over the freeway to
the Chevron Gas Station and Food Mart or Collierville Market and threturn all the way to
