Geologic mapping
for the area to the west of the site is titled Geologic Maps of the Sacramento — San
Joaquin Della by Atwater (1983). Based on this map and experience in the area, the
site is located within alluvial deposits of the Pleistocene age upper Modesto Formation
{equivalentAlluvium of the Calaveras River and vicinity, a Holocene and/or upper
Pleistocene tit, per Atwater) (Plate 7).
The surface and near surface soils located at the Site are reported by the USDA Web
Soil Survey to be composed of Jacktone clay, 0 to 2 percent slopes (Plate 8) (USDA,
2010). The table below presents some selected properties of this soil:
Table 1. A second, adjacent boring was excavated on C2
October 20 for the purpose of soil logging. The borings were four inches in diameter
and were 3.21 and 9.0 feet deep. The location of the borings is indicated on Plate 2.
The soil in the borings was within the range of what would be anticipated based on the
Soil Survey data reviewed. Clay with fine sand was encountered from the surface to 2.5
LOGE1025 Page 4
