` June 3, 2004
NOA Project Number: E04049A
5.0 SOIL PROFILE AND GEOLOGIC INFORMATION
L 5.1 Geology
The Site is depicted on the USGS Geologic Map of the San Francisco-San Jose Quadrangle (1991)
6. as within the Quaternary Modesto Formation (Plate 8). These map units represent arkosic
alluvium forming Mokelumne River terraces, channel ridges and alluvial fans. The alluvium is
a tan and light-gray gravely sand, silt and clay except where derived from volcanic rocks when
it is distinctly red and black with minor brown clasts.
5.2 Soil Properties in the Vicinity
The surface and near surface soils located at Site are reported by the San Joaquin County Soil
Survey to be composed of Jacktone clay, 0 to 2 percent slopes, and Stockton clay, 0 to 2
percent slopes (Plate 7) (USDA, 1992). Table 3 presents some selected properties of these soils:
Table 3.
Selected Soil Properties of the Surrounding Area
San Joaquin County Soil Survey Report.
Soil Name Depth(in) Unified Soil Salinity Soil Septic tank
and Map Classification mmhos/cm Reaction absorption
Symbol pH fields
Jacktone 0-22: Clay.
