KLEINFELDER
2. PRESENT AND PAST USE
Based on information provided to us by Mr. Gillies, we understand that the site has not been
recently used for agricultural or commercial purposes, with only a single-family residence and (2-
barn
2barn located on the property until recently. Mr. Gillies also stated that less than 5 lambs or goats
had been kept on the property strictly for vegetation control purposes until about a year ago.
3. SEPTIC PERMITS AND PERFORMANCE
SJCEHD septic permits on file for the subject property and those parcels adjacent to the subject
property were copied. Nine septic permits were on file for the subject property and the adjacent (3
parcels. Two of the permits were for septic system destruction, with the others apparently for
repairs/additions, including the addition of sand/oil separators. Please see the attached table for a ' Z
summary of permit information and a description of the septic system repairs. 3 6
According to the Mr. Gillies, the existing septic system on the subject property is functioning 61
well and, to the best of his knowledge, none of the adjacent properties require additional septic 0
system work to be performed at this time. No permits are on file for the original installation of
any septic system on the subject property. This system was used for the disposal of residential
septic waste. Mr. Gillies stated that the system had been upgraded with a new septic tank, leach
line, and seepage pits in anticipation of use with the proposed office structure. This appears to
have been performed under Permit Number 25302 in 2001. Based on the repair permits on file
with SJCEHD, it appears that many of the septic systems in the immediate vicinity of the subject
property have had additional leach lines/seepage pits added.
4. GROUNDWATER
During the time of our investigation, groundwater was not encountered. Lines of Equal Depth to
Groundwater contour maps published in groundwater reports by the San Joaquin County Flood
Control and Water Conservation District show groundwater levels in the project area ranging
from about 45 to 85 feet below ground surface from Spring 1981 to Spring 1999. Based on
Equal Elevation of Groundwater maps, the general groundwater gradient is from east to west,
with a very low gradient. Local gradient variations may be present due to well usage.
Groundwater at the site has been used for residential use. Future groundwater use would be
primarily for on-site restroom and lunchroom (no cafeteria) facilities for Gillies Trucking
employees. We understand that a maximum of 3 or 4 full-time employees will be at the
proposed office building. We also understand that the remainder of the employees are drivers
who will pick up/drop off their vehicles and not be on-site during the day.
According to Mr. Gillies, a diesel leak occurred at their existing facility north of the subject
property approximately 15 to 20 years ago, with a monitoring well subsequently installed for
periodic water testing. Other than this incident, Mr. Gillies does not know of any existing and/or 1
37210.G01 /ST031.664 November 19,2003
O 2003 Kleinfelder,Inc. Page 2 of 7
