1./
' December 20, 1999 *42or
Burgess Res.
Page 2
covered with lawn and various fruit trees were located around the perimeter. The site was secluded
by mature oleander bushes and pine trees. There was a large palm tree located in the middle of the
property which will likely be removed in order to allow for new construction. The lot resides in a
residential area and is surrounded by existing single family residences.
FIELD INVESTIGATION
The field investigation conducted at this site consisted of hand auguring 2 exploratory test
holes carried to depths of 9 to 10 feet. The test holes were excavated with a 4-inch hand auger and
relatively undisturbed soil samples were obtained at various depths with a 2.2 by 6 inch sampler.
Blows required to drive the sampler 4 inches were measured and then converted to Standard'
Penetration blow counts (N). This information is presented on the attached Log of Boring Sheets,
Plate Nos. 2 and 3. The soil samples obtained were retained in stainless steel liners in order that the
undisturbed nature of the soil could be preserved until the samples could be tested in the laboratory.
The samples obtained from the test holes were taken to the laboratory of Neil O. Anderson
&Assoc,Lodi,California and tested for moisture content, dry unit weight and atterberg limits. The
results of these tests are summarized on the boring log sheets. The approximate location of the test
holes is shown on the attached Location Map, Plate No. 1. The location of the test holes was
determined by pacing, hence, accuracy can be implied only to the degree that this method warrants.
SOIL CONDITIONS
Visual classification of each soil stratum encountered was made in the field by an engineer
at the time the test holes were excavated. Samples obtained were checked in the laboratory to verify
classification. A description of each soil encountered and its in-situ condition is presented on the
log sheet. The boring log legend is presented on Plate No. 4.
The soils encountered in our test holes were relatively uniform between each. The surface
3 to 4 feet consisted of a medium stiff organic silt which was underlain by a 4 to 5 foot stratum of
medium stiff sandy clay. The sandy clay was underlain by a medium stiff elastic silt continuing to
the maximum depth explored. For a more detailed description of the soils encountered in the test
holes see the boring log sheets.
The boring logs show subsurface conditions at the date and location indicated and it is not
warranted that they are representative of subsurface conditions at other locations and times. Ground
water was encountered in each test hole at a depth of 5 to 6 feet. Ground water depth can and will
fluctuate seasonally.
PERS 4
N
'= W
Q
7SS 0 C\
VI'
