GENERAL GEOLOGIC AND SOIL CONDITIONS
The subject site lies near the center of the San Joaquin Valley, a structural and topographic
basin, which is part of the Great Valley Geomorphic Province of California. This province is
characterized by extensive alluvial deposits from the Sierra Nevada mountain range which
border the Great Valley to the east. The geology of the area consists of broad, coalescing
alluvial plains that have been dissected by streams which drain the Sierra Nevada Mountain
Range. These recent alluvial plains are underlain by older alluvial deposits of Tertiary and
Quaternary age.
The stratigraphic sequence in the Central Valley area consists of apre-Tertiary basement
complex overlain by consolidated continental and marine sediments, Cretaceous of Pliocene in
age, unconsolidated deposits comprise the upper 600 to 800 feet of the stratigraphic sequence
beneath the subject site.
Soils Profile
Based on the exploratory soil boring, soils beneath the site appear to be composed primarily of
Silty Sands with Sand and Gravel at depth. The soils observed in our exploratory soil boring is
typical of young alluvium and flood-basin deposits.
A gmeral description of the soil materials encountered is presented below.
A. Brown-Gray Silty Sand(SM)
This was the surface soil for the entire site. This soil was encountered in the following
boring,at the following depths.
Boring Depth
P-1 0.0' —5.0'
B. Gray Sand and Gravel(SP)
This soil was encountered in the following boring, at the following depths:
B_ onng Dem
P-1 5.0' -25.0'
SEISMICITY
The site is located approximately 30 Kilometers northeast of the Midway-San Joaquin Fault
(2)
