Zone. This fault has a potential to cause moderate strength seismic events. <br /> The subject site is located at 37.760022 Latitude and-120.997600 Longitude. It is <br /> recommended that your structural engineer use these coordinates to obtain the latest seismic <br /> design criteria. The site class is D. <br /> FIELD INVESTIGATION <br /> Our field investigation included a visual reconnaissance of the existing surface condition, <br /> subsurface exploratory boring and obtaining representative soil samples for laboratory testing. <br /> Subsurface conditions were explored by drilling one boring which was 25.0 feet deep using a <br /> NATS B-61 drill rig. The log of the boring which presents descriptions-and classifications of <br /> the soil strata encountered using the Unified Soil Classifications System has been included in <br /> Appendix A. A Unified Soil Classification symbol explanation has been included as Plate 1. <br /> The boring location is shown on Figure 2. <br /> Representative soil samples were obtained from the boring at selected depths for transportation <br /> to our laboratory. The samples recovered consisted of relatively undisturbed brass liner <br /> samples and disturbed bag samples. The samples are recovered by driving a 2-1/2 inch and 1 <br /> 3/8 inch sampler into the ground. The samplers we <br /> re driven by repeatedly dropping <br /> a hammer <br /> weighting 140 pounds from a height of 30 inches. The number of blows were recorded and are <br /> expressed on the boring logs in a number representing blows per foot. The blow count <br /> provides a measure of soil.strength gth as it relates to soil's in situ consistency or condition. <br /> The samples were obtained from the borings generally at intervals not exceeding five feet. <br /> LABORATORY TESTING <br /> Classification <br /> Soils were visually classified according to the Unified Soil Classification System,as presented <br /> in the boring logs in Appendix A. Most of the laboratory testing program was designed to <br /> review classifications made in the field. <br /> I <br /> Moisture/Density <br /> The field moisture contents and dry unit weights were determined for selected soil samples. <br /> The wet unit wei�it was determined in pounds per cubic foot, and the field moisture content <br /> was determined as a percentage of the dry weight. The results of these tests are presented on <br /> the boring logs in Appendix A. <br /> (3) <br />
