v *M/
NUTRIENT/WASTE PRODUCTION-ACAMPO RANCH
The Acampo Ranch is proposed to house approximately 500 heifers and 400 calves (3 mos.to one yr.)
exclusively at this Ranch. There will be no flushing of manure into the primary holding pond. If
needed for temporary storage, only scraped manure will be placed in this pond. The Total Animal
Units are based upon the proposed heifer and calf population:
500 x 0.73 + 400 x 0.35 = 505 x 1.4 = 707 Total Animal Units (See N1WMP No. 3)
707 AU x (0.75 ft3/day/AU)(7.48 gal/ft ) = 3,966 gallons/day. 3,966 gals/day x 120 days storage=
476,000 gallons.
NUTRIENT CONTAINMENT STRUCTURE VOLUMES-ACAMPO RANCH
The Acampo Ranch has an irregularly-shaped holding pond referenced as the primary holding pond
and is --40 feet wide by -160 feet long by -8 feet deep. This pond is near the defunct milk barn,
calf pens and the north open corrals. Functioning as the de Snayer Heifer Ranch, this pond will
receive approximately 65% of the heifer and calf waste that may flow in from rainfall, or pushed
in. This is because solids from the corrals will be cleaned periodically throughout the spring and
summer months, and before the winter rains for land application at the Acampo Ranch. After the
rainy months, the corrals will again be cleaned for land application prior to spring planting of
silage corn and before the end of alfalfa dormancy. In addition, manure from the south corrals
cannot be washed or pushed into the north primary holding pond. A south secondary pond, which
is 85 feet wide by 190 feet long and 4 feet deep, serves as storage for silage liquor runoff from the
adjacent silage bunker. The following calculations illustrate the volume capacities for each of the
storage structures on the Acampo Ranch, and are based on the formulae presented above:
NORTH PRIMARY HOLDING POND STORAGE VOLUME
Volume= (36 x 154 x 6)- [(1 x 36)x(36+ 154)]+(4 x 1 x 216_3)=26,712 ft3 or 199,828 gallons
SOUTH SECONDARY POND STORAGE VOLUME
Volume= (73 x 178 x 2)- [(3 x 4)x(73+ 178)]+(4 x 9 x 8-3)=23,072 ft'or 172,579 gallons
PRIMARY IRRIGATION WATER CONVEYANCE DITCH VOLUME
6,500 Total Lineal Feet x 15 feet wide x 10 feet deep. Trapezoidal Formula: V=0.5 x LD(Floor width + LV) x L
Volume=0.5 x 8(10+ 12)x 6,500=572,000 ft'or 4,278,560 gallons
TOTAL STORAGE VOLUME FOR POTENTIALLY MANURED WATER ORIGINATING AT THE ACAMPO RANCH
Volume=621,784 ft'or 4,651,000 gallons
Since the primary irrigation water conveyance ditch is an extension of the primary holding pond, it
is noted from the following calculations illustrated in Table 7, that sufficient 120-day storage
capacity exists at the Acampo Ranch:
a
-11-
Chesnq Consulting
