`- ..i
16
ATION WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM-BLOSSOM RANCH
Ndairy nutrient water is, or can be applied to the Blossom Ranch- only manure solids from the
IRRIGATION
Ranch. Irrigation water is obtained from Hog Slough at the southern boundary of the
Blossom Ranch. The attached schematic shows the field number orientation. Most of the fields
are irrigated from a center irrigation water ditch traversing north and south from Hog Slough to
Peltier Road. Therefore, direction of irrigation flow is typically westerly on the west side of the
— ditch and easterly on the east side of the ditch. This flow direction can change from growing
season to growing season, depending on the crops grown and required acreage.
Crops currently grown on the Blossom Ranch include tomatoes (218 acres), oats for seed (182.7
acres) and watermelons for seed (20.6 acres). Most irrigations on the numbered fields are done by
furrow with siphons. Irrigation water is carefully managed by experienced irrigators, and
monitored by direct observation to minimize runoff.
TAILWATER RECOVERY SYSTEM-BLOSSOM RANCH
A tailwater pond is located at the southern end of the Ranch. A pump can return tailwater to the
fields if needed; however, due to careful irrigation management this is typically not necessary. It is
only during the rainy months when the soil becomes saturated that runoff water management
becomes an issue. As noted, manure transported to the Blossom Ranch is immediately
incorporated by the farmer, Mr. Allen Baroni,to minimize odor concerns and receive the
maximum nutritional benefit from the manure solids. Consequently, the possibility of manure
solids runoff from the Ranch is extremely low.
F. NUTRIENT AND IRRIGATION WATER MANAGEMENT PLANS (NIWMPs)
— Nutrient and Irrigation Water Management Plans (NIWMPs) have been promulgated by the Central
Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board as "Fact Sheet No. 4 For Dairies." Appendix 3
contains four separate NIWMP Forms with the applicable calculations completed for the following
-- locations, and for the proposed expansion of the Home Ranch:
1. Existing de Snayer Dairy Home Ranch Holstein Population(NIWMP#1)
2. Proposed Expansion of de Snayer Dairy Home Ranch Holstein Population(NIWMP#2)
3. Acampo Holstein Heifer Ranch Population (NIWMP#3)
4. Blossom Ranch Manure Solids Application (NIWMP#4)
Data for each item listed above, are summarized in Table 11 for the current conditions and Table
12 for the proposed post-expansion conditions. As noted, all three Ranches are projected to have
.. deficient cropland nitrogen requirements after the proposed expansion phase.
-13JJ
-
C6iesney Coiwdting
