The report evaluates the existing process wastewater ponds <br /> and presents water balances for the following alternatives: <br /> f 1. Existing conditions with no improvements <br /> 2. Increase the bene height on the existing ponds' configuration <br /> L3. Expand the ponds' size 30 feet west of the existing western pond borders <br /> 4. Remove the berm between Ponds 2 and 3 and increase the berm height <br /> L5. Remove the berm between Ponds 2 and 3 and expand the ponds to the west <br /> The report showed insufficient pond capacity is currently available. To increase capacity, Owens- <br /> Brockway proposes to implement Alternative No. 5 listed above. Please submit a project schedule <br /> chape_nts how Owens-Brockway will operate in compliance with Waste Discharge Requirements <br /> s)Fto. 5-00-056 which require full compliance with Discharge Specifications Nos. B.7 and B.8 by <br /> 1 November 2000. <br /> Discharge Specification B.7 states: <br /> The process wastewater pond system shall have sufficient capacity to accommodate allowable <br /> wastewater flow, design seasonal precipitation, seasonal ancillary inflow, and infiltration during <br /> the wet season. Design seasonal precipitation shall be based on total annual precipitation using a <br /> return of 100 years, distributed monthly in accordance with historical rainfall patterns. <br /> Discharge Specification B.8 states: <br /> The freeboard in the process wastewater ponds shall never be less than two feet in any pond as <br /> measured vertically from the water surface to the upper surface of the lowest adjacent dike or levee. <br /> California Environmental Protection Aeencv <br /> A Rnr ,W Pn., <br />
