r7A review of Application Permits on file with the Environmental Health Department shows there
has been only one Application for Repairs/Additions to septic systems within the one-half mile
radius study area. This addition was for a filter bed installed at 8898 West Schulte Road. A
filter bed was designed and installed for this property probably due to area constraints. The area
around the subject property has been designated "High Water Table Areas" by EHD. Therefore,
since the water table is shallow in this area, seepage pits or sumps are not allowed. The Mattos's
stated that there has never been a problem with the two septic systems on Parcel 2, which have
been in operation for over 50 years.
SOIL PROFILE AND PERCOLATION TESTING
The soil from 0 inches to 24 inches is uniform and consists of a dark brown clay, with little sand
and silt. The soil has a medium organic matter content, and medium moisture content. The
Unified Soil Classification System(USCS) classifies this soil as CL-ML - a lean clayey silt.
From 30 inches to boring termination at 42 inches, exists a light yellowish brown clayey silt-
classified also as CL/ML. A Log of Boring designating the USCS soil classification for the
percolation test boring is found near the top right-hand corner of the FIELD PERCOLATION
TESTING REPORT.
Percolation testing was conducted onarp c_el 1_in the extreme southwest corner of the parcel since
there was no other open land -the entire parcel is planted in beans. Therefore.this location
theoreticall;rrp:esents the entire subject Parcel. Pert testing for parcel 2 was done north of an
existing concrete pad and 165 feet north of the existing domestic well. Perc testing for parcel 3
was done in the anticipated location of the proposed leachfield area for Randy Mattos's future
house and 168 feet north of an open Westside Irrigation ditch. All three test borings were 42
iaghZLdeep. The borings were drilled on July 28. On July 31, gravel was added to the borings
and they were pre-saturated the day before testing. Perc testing commenced on August 1.
Readings were taken over a four-hour test period to ensure maximum soil saturation under
"worst-case scenario" conditions. The perc tests exhibited rapid percolation for all three parcels.
The last half hour of the test was witnessed by Justin Herr of the San Joaquin County
Environmental Health Department.
LOCAL GROUNDWATER AND SURFACE WATER INFORMATION
The 1992 Lines of Equal Elevation Map published by the San Joaquin County Flood Control
District is the only recent groundwater map available that illustrates the groundwater elevation in
the Tracy area, and therefore the directional flow. It appears, and is generally accepted, that the
groundwater is flowing in a northeast direction toward the San Joaquin River. The groundwater
gradient can also be assumed by the declination of the land, which groundwater flow typically
follows. However, the most reliable source that groundwater directional flow is in a northeast
direction is groundwater remediation that is occurring at the Tracy Defense Depot.
Page -2 J-)
-
Chesney ConsaftiV
